  1. Okay obviously you are going to give your dogs shots from home no matter what advice anyone gives you. This is the 3rd question about giving a dog shots from you.

Again, I recommend letting the vet do it. You can easily injure the dog if you don't know what you're doing. And if you ever need to do surgery, boarding, training, etc. you will need actual vet records

  2. no seriously,what the h**l ...

do u have a vet nearby?

whats wrong with ur vet?u wanna endanger ur dog life?

  3. i'm not sure if u can buy them on line. but i know u can go to like a feed store or like to tractor supply and buy shots. the only one u can't buy is the rabies shot. i hope this has helped u out some.

  4. I'm sure you can at one of the many pet supply sites, such as drsfosters.com or 1800petmeds.com as well as at some feed supply stores.

Personally, I am against the casual pet owner vaccinating their animals and even though it isn't illegal, at least in my state(sorry to say), I do not advocate the practice. The reason being is I'm not sure you can guarantee the quality of the vaccine, the proper dose or the proper storage in an on-line vendor or at the feed store, only one person has to miss store or leave it unrefrigerated for too long for it to be ruined. When you go to the vet you can be reasonably assured that the vaccine is viable, has been properly stored and my animal is received the proper dosage thus insuring his health. I know that some breeders do their own puppies and I don't even approve of that but because dogs are considered live stock by law in my state they can do it, unscrupulous breeders will even give your dog more shots for "cheaper" then your vet..this is illegal as it is practicing without a license. For my dogs only my vet will do, I trust him and I don't find him to be unreasonable in his fees.

  5. If you can't afford to have your vet administer your puppy's shots, you can't afford a dog.

One of the main reasons for having your dog get yearly vaccinations is to have a check-up, too.  Dogs need yearly exams to ensure they are in good health.

  6. You can buy them online but a lot of the meds, they required you to have medical license.  My brother in law is a doctor and he could buy these online and give them to my and his dogs.  But there is certain meds you still can not get even with that, i believe rabies to be one of them.

  7. No, I don't recommend them.

What if your puppy has an allergic reaction to the vaccine, and you can't get him to the vet in time to save him?  Happened to my puppy... luckily we WERE at the vet -- puppy turned out OK, only because they were able to give her steroid injections immediately.  If we had already gone home she probably would not have made it.

Read up on vaccinations before you take your pup.  Some vaccines are extremely important to have, while others are unnecessary or even risky.  I recommend getting Parvo, Distemper, and Rabies (but rabies doesn't come until later); nothing else unless you read about it and decide you need it.  But tell the vet exactly what you want when you go in; some vets will try to talk you into getting more, but it's not required.

  8. Vets are not the only ones that can provide shots. If you have a Petco or Petsmart near you they offer a discounted vaccination plan. Also depending on where you live some cities and/or states offer discounted vaccination programs as well. For example I just adopted a puppy from our local animal shelter here in LA and he came with a spay/neuter, deworming, Puppy shots and boosters, a free vet visit, AND by the way at least here when you adopt a puppy/dog from the shelter, Petco gives you a coupon book for all your basics right down to pet photography. You have to prove you adopted the puppy from the shelter but the coupons are worth $225.00. I believe if you can provide a good home to an animal and save its life, you can get help providing for him/her. There are programs to help the animal lovers out there.

  9. First of all your puppy should be checked out by the vet.  Do you know anything about giving shots?  What will you do if your pup has a reaction to one of the shots?  Let the vet do it.

  10. 1800petmeds.com

It would be much safer if you went to your vet however if you have experience with animals you can try doing the shots at home.  I grew up on a farm and giving animals shots was never a problem however I like to have my puppies checked out by a vet anyway.  A dog is a companion that you will have for many years so a little extra care is good.  Good luck.

  11. You can go to any feed store, or order them on line at Jeffers.com. I have given my dogs their own shots for years. Please be sure  you know how to give them, and how often to give them. You probably need to go to the vet to get the rabies shot, because they are administered in the muscle. Parvo & distemper shots are given  under the skin, preferably on the back of the neck, above the collar-line. Maybe you could bring your dog to the vet to get the rabies shot & they could explain exactly how to administer a shot. There's alot more to giving a shot than filling a syringe & just sticking it in the dog. Please learn what your doing first. Good luck to you.

  12. Do not buy anything like that on line especially from 1-800-pet-meds.  They have been kicked out of Florida for repackaging and selling previously opened products and they don't ask for prescriptions for stuff that requires it.  So you need to go to your vet and get them to give them the needed shots.  They will not give him too much or too little.

  13. We have always taken our dogs to Petco for shots, they have the clinic open 3 days a week (3:00pm-7:00pm) and its very reasonable @ $39.00 per series.

Or you can check the web or local animal shelter for low cost clinics in your area. Unless you are experienced its better to have someone with knowledge to do it for you.

  14. I'd get the needles, and products from your vet. while you're buying the stuff, ask them if they can show you how to give the needles.

I don't recommend doing this. but if you're going to anyways, get it the stuff from your vet. if your vet doesn't have it, a country vet will

alot of online stores are just for show.

  15. No I would not recommend this.

If you would prefer doing it yourself instead of going to a vet, you should go to your Co-Op.  They supply most shots for dogs.  I would NOT recommend giving the rabies shot yourself--I have heard many nightmares of this.

Please make sure you have tested your puppy for any diseases you will be vaccinating for--this could be deadly if you don't.

Also, please make sure that you are well-educated in performing these shots.  Your local Co-Op probably has someone that would be willing to help you the first time.

    Good luck...please don't buy online!

  16. I don't think they sell puppy shots online.

I would say go to your vet.  Puppy shots can be pretty pricey but call around.

  17. Even if you can buy them on-line unless you have your dog checked out by a vet first I don't recommend it.

Your dog may have hidden health problems that can  be irritated from the shots...if you truly care for the puppy take it to the vet and allow the vet to do his/her job and leave the vaccinations to the professionals.
