I tried Wal-Mart and City Market 2 times and they keep refusing my check. The first time I went to Wal-Mart the lady said my I.D. was expired but she was going to let me get away with it, or so she said but the check didn’t go through. Then I tried City Market and they told me strait up that I needed a new I.D. first. So I got a new I.D. and tried City Market again and their machine was refusing to take the check so I went back to Wal-Mart and it did the same thing. The check has about $100 and I would cash it at a bank but they said since its over $100 I would have to open a checking account. So the question is- Is it even worth cashing?

  1. Any Federally chartered bank is required to cash any US Treasury check without any fees or requiring you to open an account as long as you have adequate proof of ID.

Any bank with the word "Federal" in its name or the initials "NA" after it is a Federally chartered bank.

  2. not sure whay city u r in but go to a branded check cashing service u may have to pay a small fee about 2% but u can get it cashed.

  3. yes, open the account so you don't have to pay any fees to cash it,it is good to have a checking and savings account.

if you don't want to keep the account you can always go and get it closed.
