Where can I check to find out if a volunteer organization is legitimate?

check out charitynavigator.org, they rate charity groups. Also you can call up a group you are interested in and if they won't send you a financial report then you will know for sure. God Bless!!

You can try United Way, they deal with a lot of charities and volunteer organizations on the local and national levels.  Also, try the better business bureau to see if there are any complaints about them.  I googled a charity, once, just to see what mention there was about them, and found out that even though they were legit, they didn't operate the way I thought they did.  You can also see if there is a Business Volunteers Unlimited in your area.
