  1. Hmmm,This is a tough one.  You obviously figured out how to use the internet to post this question.  So, we know you are clever. You are almost there all on your own for the answer. You just need to put a little more effort into it.

Find the official website for Cook county, IL, and search for community service.  They should have a list of organizations that are accepting volunteer help. You can also go directly to the courthouse -- there should be a department just for probationers, like you. When  you were sentenced what instructions did they give you -- you know -- the papers they handed you that you probably didn't want to read?

Somewhere in the County buildings or courthouse you will HAVE to find out exactly where that particular department is, either online, or in person, because you will need to go there to pick up your 'timesheet/timecard' that will be required for the 'contact person/boss' at your "job/assignment/community service place".  That person will have to sign off on that timesheet/card and then that person sends it directly to the courthouse,in order to legally track & log your hours. That signed off timesheet is like your paycheck, take very good care of tracking your hours/dollars for yourself as well, cause people can make mistakes. You are your own backup system in this case.

Thats how I worked off my hours after my arrest.  Don't be shocked guys, I was an innocent bystander!! REALLY - I was! Even the newspaper said so.  I was 53 at the time!

Back to you . . A word of caution - don't s***w up.  Don't be irresponsible, don't call in sick, don't wear raggedy clothes that stink, don't lie, apologize if you goofed up, admit you goofed up, everyone does, don't be late, ask questions if you aren't sure exactly what they are asking you to do, say please and thank you, open doors for ladies, and anyone else you can.  Be eager to GET THE OPPORTUNITY to get out in a real working environment and gain some experience that you CAN use as a reference for your next job.

I have a better idea tho -- this can all work to your advantage if you really ARE clever -- why stop at 30 hours, there are so many ways to help.  You must have some talent that can be put to good use.  You figured out a way to get noticed, or you wouldn't need to be asking these questions.  How about reading to the elderly, raking leaves, dog walking, just going to visit some older person and just explaining the language/slang of youth is very entertaining to those of us curious enough to listen.  Pick up trash on main street or the park. . . Look around you, what can YOU make better - even for a moment?  All those extra hours can be used as a job or personal refernece too!
