I need to do community service for school, and I am very passionate about people in the service (please keep your opinions to yourself, this is not up for debate).

Does anyone have any ideas or know of any place that I can do the community service?

  1. You can go to a Veterans' hospital for starters. VA clinics sometimes need volunteers, too. You could also go to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Many women who served in past wars live there and just love the fact that they are recognized. If you go to gun shows, there are usually tables set up where the VA give info out.  Your best bet is to call these places and get more ideas from there.

  2. almost every city has a a veteran's office. you can look it up online. bigger cities have VA hospitals so I am sure you can volunteer there. you can also go to anysoldier.com and send letters and carepackages to deployed soldiers.

  3. There are several organizations that I can think of that are in every community that work with Service people and war vets.

The VA., the RedCross, You might also Contact VFW and American Legion.

Also check out other organizations that serve these people in your community.  You might have a USO near your or other service groups that help these folks.

  4. Look for a local Veteran's Hospital. There may be something you can do there.

  5. You should be able to volunteer at your local veteran's hospital or at a USO if there is one locate din your state.

  6. There is a young girl here she's 16 years old. She has started, with the help of some adult friends, a community service for our troops returning home from the war. When the troops come home to the Army base they have small rooms they come home to. She collects things like toothbrushes, shampoo, candy, small items to decorate the rooms, and makes the rooms pleasant for the men and women who have only an empty room to come back too. The troops say this is very appreciated and that it makes them feel as if the local people really care and remembered them while they are deployed. She had to get permission from the base to do this and she said they were very helpful. Many people have given her money toward her efforts and dropped off things for her at her church to help in her cause. It's just something to think about.

  7. I would look into the local American Legion, VFW, or AM-VETS. You can also try contacting the closest Department of Veteran's Affairs office for ideas. As a veteran myself, I appreciate your efforts and wish you well.
