Question:

Where can I donate a huge number of books?

My college student group plans on having a book drive in a couple of months, and we need to find a worthy recipient. We can't afford to ship the books, so we either need somewhere in the area (the SF Bay Area) or an organization that will take care of shipping. And don't say a library, because we've already vetoed that.

  1. How about elderly communities or half-way houses?

  2. Our Goodwill no longer takes many books. Has to be something special. Have you tried your local Craigslist? If they are worth anything to folks in the SF area, they will come get them. If you raise any money doing this, donate it to the library. Our local library has a "friends of the library" group that sells books in the library and gives them the profits. Talk to them again and see if they would work with you on this - they have to provide the space.

  3. Local chuch groups, Goodwill stores, nursing homes.

  4. www.africanlibraryproject.org

I believe the founder, Chris Bradshaw, lives in the SF area.

  5. It's really hard to get rid of books.

We have had to just burn them to get them out of the way.

  6. Good will, Salvation Army, Home less shelters, Churches.

  7. Why did yo veto the library? It seem that it is the only place that would take a verity of books.

Also what kind of books? This will help us tell you who to donate the books to. Are there shelters in yo area? you could donate them there.
