Question:

Where can I donate a lot of children's books?

My family is getting rid a bunch of childrens books, and we were hoping to make a project out of it, and put up posters around the places where we do sports. We were going to donate them to an organization that destributes books among people who are either in the hospital, or can't get books. The organization needs to be in Ohio, and it has to accept used books. Thanks for helping me.

  1. Look into local literacy councels. They are always looking for books in all conditions. It's a tax write off if you do it that way. There is also the local Battered Women's shelters that also take in children will more then likely take some. You could also look into the local childrens wards of the hospitals in your area. The play areas are looking for new toys and everything. When I was at the Mayo Clinic in Minnisota, they accepted alot of used books for us to read.

If you are already going to put up flyers around areas, maybe you could turn it into a book drive project. When you find a local area to donate them, they might be willing to take a much larger lot...

Try the United Way. They do alot of good all over the country.

  2. You could donate to local schools, churches, libraries, hospitals, or even the salvation army or something.  But I would choose local/needy schools.  Another idea is to keep them for future children/grandchildren or something.  My step mom is a teacher and she was torn between taking all of my books to school for the library or saving them for her future grand kids so she kept half and donated half.  That's so nice what you're doing.

  3. How about a homeless shelter or an unwed mothers home. Also Salvation Army is good too. A local library or a used book store would take them. Or a hospital for children who are very ill.

  4. Why don't you just donate them to Goodwill.
