Question:

Where can I donate some things I own?

I've recently decided that I want to get rid of about 80% of things I own. I just don't use or need most of the things I own (and the clutter is awful). I've been trying to plan a yard sale for a few months, but after trying to schedule one many times, I realize that I just don't have time for one.

I could really use the money from a yard sale, but at the same time, I just started an excellent job with good pay (for a 19 year old, that is) so I'm starting to accummulate the money I need.

I'd really just like to donate all of my things to anyone that really needs it. What are some good places (shelters, etc.) that I could donate to? And is there a way to donate items without being in the same city as the receivers?

  1. Salvation Army; they'll get the stuff wherever it's needed.

  2. Salvation Army.

  3. THE GOODWILL

  4. You can donate them to Goodwill, use this link to find out if there is a nearby drop off place.

Vietnam veterans will come to your house and pick up..  just leave the items on the porch.  You can schedule a pick up here using this link...   not sure if this is done in all states, but they'll pick up  clothing and household goods.

    or call them at 1-800-775-VETS(8387).

  5. try calling your local human aid or fia office(social services),they will have a list of all the organizations in your area that will gladly take your things and distribute them to  the needy,or they sometimes know of a specific family than you can really help with the things

  6. homeless shelter, good will.

  7. There are many charitable organizations that will take your stuff.  I usually take items to Goodwill.  Look in  your phone book under charities. If you have large items like furniture there are some places that will pick it up for you.   Most of these organizations don't distribute the items to the needy, rather they put them for sale in their thrift shop to raise money for their various programs.  I guess you can drive the stuff to a neighboring city, though I'm not sure why you care what city the items wind up in.  Don't forget you can write off the donations on your taxes.  Thank you for donating your stuff instead of throwing it in a landfill!
