I know a pretty poor neighborhood that looks like c**p. Its about a 45 minute drive to get there and im thinking I can find a d umpster down there to throw it in.

Im sure the citizens wont mind.

Is there any kind of trouble that I can into for doing this?

Aside from maybe running into a few unseemly persons.

  1. If your furniture is still in good shape, you can donate it to the Salvation Army or Goodwill, or you can list it on craigslist or freecycle.  If your furniture is in bad shape, bring it to your local dump or recycle center and pay to have it taken care of properly.  Dumping your furniture in a poor neighborhood is not only rude, but illegal.

  2. Why don't you just go on craigslist and write "Free couch and table!" and have someone who needs them come and pick them up?

  3. If an unseemly person gets your license plate number and model of the car, they can call the police.  (Poor people do have phones.)  Then you will be fined for illegal dumping, even if it is in a dumpster.  Just take it to the nearest landfill or post on craigslist.com about the free couch or just put it out on your curb when they do those special garbage pick ups.

  4. take it to the Goodwill

Jennifer: what is it with you and phones ho

  5. That is so cool!....I borrow a pick-up and then stack the furniture precariously...,then round a corner too fast with the radio blaring....by the time I get home the truck is empty...

  6. Do not dump it.  This neighborhood is their home, not your trash heap.  Do not insult fellow human beings by trashing their home.

Yes, you can get in trouble for dumping - you did not pay for that dumpster, so you have no right to dump in it.

Simple call up Goodwill or a local thrift shop, and tell them you would like to donate some used furniture.  You can also call churches, community centers, or homeless shelters in the area to see if they could use some old furniture.  Your trash might be someone else's treasure.
