    will do it for California, 1940 - 1997. You can replace the "/ca/" in the URL with "/tx/" or "/ky/" for Texas and Kentucky. They have different year ranges.

    As the first lady said, no such nationwide data base exists.

    As the second one said, some states have some years. Google "Missouri death index" or "Missouri death records", replacing "Missouri" with the state you want.


  3. Depends on the state. Some states have an index (or in very rare instances access to actual death certificates) online that is searchable for a limited number of years. Check the USgenweb.org page for the state that you are interested in or alter your question to include the specific state.

    The Social Security Death Index is searchable by state and date, but it will only tell you deaths of Social Security number holders whose deaths were reported to Social Security and the last state they were known to have resided in.
