I suggest going garage selling or thrift store shopping and buying cheaper pieces that don't match but have nice shapes.  Then, Let your teen pick color of paint that best expresses them and you guys sand and paint the pieces together to create not only a really cool and unique look but a creative project you can work on together.

Browse around http://www.roomstogo.com/ and see if they have what you are looking for.

There's also a PB outlet store in an outlet mall near here.  Frankly, I would have thought they were giving stuff away to see it flying out of there.  Most of it was damaged from minor to serious.

Try Big Lots... with back to school just around the corner they have TONS of cool dorm stuff and all pretty cheap
