  1. You might need to look for it under a different name.

Papaver paeoniflorum, or Papaver laciniatum are two ornamental varieties of Papaver somniferum

You might find some called Giant Poppy (papaver giganthemum). or a multistemmed variety known as "hens and chicks" here. Persian white poppies and dutch ovals are two more good ornamental varieties that grow well and make nice tea. Also hungarian blue, and some of the Oriental red.

If you can find anybody selling raw poppy seed for baking you should plant some because it is likely papaver somniferum or a variety of it.

Not all seed poppies are potent because there have been attempts to breed low yield plants.

    Yes, to looking around though.

If you look up the identifying features (smooth bluish coloured leaves, round head, etc) you should be able to find them where ornamental flowers are sold.

As said, they will likely have different names. Poppy seed poppies or bread poppies or something like that.

If you find dried pods you can usually shake a few seeds out of them.
