I am having a WW2 1940's wartime wedding and I wanted my invitations to be vintage looking military orders; however, I can't seem to find any originals or copies of original orders.

  1. Military Operations Orders tend to be rather bland and lengthy documents.  Overall format for operation orders have not changed significantly over the years.

A suggestion.  The essence of any military operation order is the "Five Paragraph Order".  Using this format a patrol order can be less than a page long and an order for the invasion of Normandy could consists of thousands of pages and yet the overall organization is the same.

    The basic outline is

    Situation

    Mission

    Execution

    Admin/Logistics

    Command/Signal

The United States Rangers essentially use this same 5 paragraph opord format.

Take a look at the overall 5 paragraph operation order format.  I think that ultimately it can be adapted to a "Mission:  Invitation to Attend a Wedding".  You could include a map similar to the one in my source number 3.  I would probably not indicate the enemy on the map, but more the friendly forces, their route and the objective to be taken.

Finally my last source shows various declassified operational documents from Desert Storm.  You could borrow some of the formatting from these documents to include classification, declassification date, headquarters, etc.

    Hope this helps.  Bonne chance.
