Question:

Where can I find a bayonet lug for a mossberg 590 shotgun? I have looked everywhere and had no luck.

I need only the bayonet lug. The lug also is the cap that screws on at the end of the magazine. I want to put it on my mossberg 500 because the 500's do not come with one. Please help me find one. Thanks.

  1. The Mosberg 500 has a barrel that has the take down s***w affixed to the barrel.  It screws into a threaded hole in the magazine.  The Mossberg 590 has a removable magazine cap much like the Remington 870s.  The bayonet lug is part of the barrel on the second ring.  See links below for schematics.

To do what you want to do (put a bayonet on a Mossbrg 500), you would need to replace your barrel, your magazine tube, your magazine spring and follower with those of a 590.  Why not just get a 590 to begian with?

  2. Mossberg shotguns that I have looked at do not have the bayonet lug on the end of the magazine cap. What I think you are seeing on some models is actually a sling swivel. My Mossy has the bayonet lug on an extra ring that encircles the magazine tube, and the magazine cap goes into the ring on the bayonet, rather than that ring going around the barrel.

I suggest you save and trade your current Mossy for one like in the picture. Mine is the 590A1 with ghost-ring sights.

  3. I think you need to order a barrel with the bayo lug on it. Check and see if you can find anything on gunbroker.com.
