  1. God is Spirit; bigness is a physical comparison between two objects.  Your song is a bit theologically incorrect.

  2. Maybe the concept of a 'big' God is not part of the Bible's message.

Don't think you can really size such a being.

The Bible usually supports whatever message you want to give. That's the beauty of mythology.

  3. He's not big.  He doesn't have a body or physical substance.

Neither does he literally 'hold us in his hand' as the song goes onto say.

These lines are also a bit iffy..

He's higher than a sky scraper

and he's deeper than a submarine.

    Change the song.  :-)

  4. Take a look at what He has done.

    1) The immensity of the universe is but an expression of His power.

    2) The depth of His love sends His Son to save us.

    3) The earth is fruitful enough to over satisfy all our needs.

    4)  His forgiveness covers all our sins, and more.

Engage the children. Ask them how they know their parents love them. Then ask them how they know that God loves them

What can their parents do? What can God do?

    Hope your lessons go well.

  5. 2 Chronicles 2:5-6 (New International Version)

5 "The temple I am going to build will be great, because our God is greater than all other gods. 6 But who is able to build a temple for him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain him? Who then am I to build a temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before him?

  6. That specific word does not appear as a descriptive term for God in the King James (old or new testament).  I shall now look for synonyms in that context.

    Deuteronomy 10:17

For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:

Beyond that, it doesn't seem a common adjective.  I've looked at vast, unbounded, all encompassing, large, limitless, unlimited, and others and come up empty.

Mythology indeed.  I long for the day when "Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess."  Ah, the pride of those who think they are enlightened.  And pride cometh before a fall.

I can not find any direct allusion for the lyrics of that song, but it is rumored that Jo and Nigel Hemming were inspired by Romans 9-11 for their big God vision, reflected in "Our God Is A Great Big God."
