Where can I find a cheap yet nice apartment in Paris?

I plan to move to Paris when im 18, im going to go to the Make Up Forever Academy in Paris. Which is in the 7th district. Is there any apartments in the 7th district (i know it is expensive) or close areas that have apartments under $1000 US. 1 Bedroom or even a studio would be fine.

Could someone recommend websites with listings, or even good, safe surrounding areas, because I live in New York now and don't know Paris all that well.

Thank you!

  1. Paris rental apartments:

  2. Of course there are a lot of studios under that price in Paris even in the most expensive districts.

Go to http://www.pap.fr/immobilier/?mode=reche... and enter the city or zip code you want and the maximum price (650 €). For instance, the zip code for the 7th district is 75007, for the 16th it is 75016, etc. The English version is translated by automatic translation so descriptions might sound a little funny at times. Try to locate the nearest métro lines to your school and choose something along that line or a line with only one connection. You can enter the address of your school in the pink box (link below) and click on "plan de quartier". You can zom out to see other métro stations near the address. http://www.ratp.fr/

When you rent you need to pay the first month + a deposit equal to 2 months' rent. You will have an easier time if you have a guarantor. You will also need to get a home insurance but that's cheap, especially for a tiny studio.

Avoid the north east of Paris (19th arrondissement) and anything too far from your school. But some parts of the expensive districts like the 7th, 16th and 8th are so quiet and residential that it can feel a little creepy walking home at night for a girl on her own even if they are generally safe. I would rent in a central district and close to shopping areas. Some little streets just off a busy shopping street can be really quiet and nice.

You can also browse through the ads of FUSAC (France-USA Contact) but most places will be super expensive (most Americans in Paris like to live in luxury and pay top prices): http://www.fusac.fr/en/annonces_categori...

What is the exact address of your school?

Edit: the 19th is run-down, not very safe and it is at the other side of Paris from the 7th.

2nd edit: Well, based on the zip code of your school it is not in the 7th but in the 8th (border 9th). Give me just a minute and I'll check the métro lines.

3rd edit: OK, it's right next to the St-Lazare train station. Most of the district is OK but don't go further north toward Pigalle (where all the s*x shops are) or east toward Gare du Nord (not the safest). Stay south east or west of the school. Only problem is it's expensive... I have to go to bed (I work early tomorrow, no holiday for me) but you can e-mail me through my profile if you have other questions. Tomorrow Parisians will probably answer your question too, they are still in bed at this time. I am from the Paris region but live in the US right now.
