  1. Try your local pet store or a reputable breeder...

  2. Breeders are best but good pet stores where the birds aren't sitting on their perches being mostly quiet and "fluffed up".

  3. There are a number of reputable pet stores where you can get a healthy bird. Just be aware of the general  condition of the store & area where birds are kept. If it looks dirty and birds look disheaveled, walk out!  If the employees can't answer your basic questions-walk out! They should be able to tell you how old (approx) the birds are by their leg bands. Also, if they don't have leg bands-walk out! Most will not be able to accurately tell the s*x, esp if birds are young.

  4. I would rather get  a bird from a reputable breeder thena pet store. Pet stores have way too high of health risks and disease exposures on a daily basis. Plus they are usually not all that tame. As where a breeder usually has hand tamed babies and at a cheaper price. Plus they can answer all your questions present and in the future. Trust me you will never buy pet store birds again once you expierence the marvel of a home breed baby. I know of a brreder somewhat near you also she is in Wisconsin near Milwaukee.
