A quick guide as to what contains sweetener is whether it is unsweetened or is described as no added sugar. If a product is labelled as 'no added sugar' or 'sugar free' then it will have been artificially sweetened. A product labelled 'unsweetened' usually contains no sugar or sweeteners. To be on the safe side, get used to reading the label. Aspartame has even been found in some bottled waters!

Aspartame is listed in the ingredient list on a food label either by its name or by its number (951). Products containing aspartame also list phenylalanine on their ingredients label.
