Are they available at regular hardware stores? I'm pretty sure cotton wool is, but where could I find the firework fuse? Does anyone know if any chain stores carry them?

  1. you can make one it might be cheaper

    Steps

       1. Cut a piece of string to the length desired for your fuse.

       2. Soak the string in water until completely permeated, then wring it out with your fingers.

       3. Put your black powder in a dish.

       4. Roll the string in the black powder until it is fully coated.

       5. Set it aside and let dry for about 5 hours.

    Tips

        * Be sure everything is coated, otherwise the fuse might stop halfway.

        * Don't use glue or any other adhesive, water will do just fine.

        * Making a collection of fuses ahead of time in varying sizes or as a long string saves time and energy if you need them often.

    Warnings

        * Anything involving gunpowder or the use of fireworks can be dangerous. Exercise extreme caution.

    Things You'll Need

        * Scissors

        * Woolen string

        * A source of black powder, such as a fireworks cracker

  2. Pure cotton wool will be available at craft stores that sell upholstery materials.

    You can actually order what's called "cannon fuse" online at places like http://www.cannonfuse.com/

    Pyrotechnic materials aren't the sort of thing chain stores will carry.  Black powder can be bought at firearms shops that handle supplies for black powder muzzle loaders.

    Please note - Building fireworks is not a DIY project.  It's very dangerous - fireworks manufacturers commonly have individual bunkers where their assembly people work pretty much alone.
