I need a free pattern for a messenger bag (sewing) that has lots of pockets. I can't find any decent ones on the web, and was wondering if someone knew of a place I could find one. Links please!

:) Thanks.

This pattern gives you hints and suggestions on how to adapt the pattern to your specific needs.

Some of the things I like to add to large bags are zippered pockets for items that I need to keep handy such as a wallet or ID.  I also like to add a key ring so I can clip my keys to it.

The easiest zipper pocket I know of is one I can't find on the internet.  Determine how wide and how long you want the pocket to be.  Add seam allowance and double the length.  Cut it out.

One side of the zipper is sewn on the top edge.  Fold the bottom edge up to the other half of the zipper and sew it in place.  This makes a tube with a zipper connecting the top and bottom.

Turn the pocket so it is inside out.  Place the zipper about one inch from the top fold of the tube of fabric, making a rectangle.  Open the zipper a little before sewing the side seams--it will be a lot easier to turn!  Sew both sides of the pocket with a 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch seam allowance.

Turn the pocket right sides out.  Attach the pocket by sewing down one side, across the bottom and up the other side.  Leave the top edge open.

This gives you a double pocket.  One pocket with a zipper to securely store items and the other to put items you want to easily find.
