Where can I find a good, reliable, and safe desk lamp for college?

I am heading off to college and I need a desk lamp. We are not allowed to have halogen lamps. It has to be bright, because 4 people are living in the room and my desk has to be under my bed, but there is also no air conditioning, so I do not want a lamp that causes excess heat. I have experimented with desk lamps in the past and they all seem to get super hot when they are on for longer periods of time, and I'm really afraid that fire could be an issue with that. Does anyone have any ideas? My price range is anything under $50.

I highly recommend going to Target and browsing through their lamp section. Not only are they pretty nice looking, they have always worked well for me.

touch lamps with rechargeable batteries. No real heat and very portable they even have one with a light bulb now.
