Where can I find a *great* pizzeria in or near to East Dulwich?

I've got a friend coming to visit on Monday. We have this ongoing arrangement whereby we always go for pizza when we meet up, and we have had some fab ones in the past, and also some stinkers. I've recently moved to East Dulwich and don't know anywhere local... surely there has to be somewhere locally better than Dominoes? Takeaway or eat-in, don't really mind. Cheers!

  1. ring 118 118

  2. There is a nice Italian restaurant ' Il Giardino' they do a nice calziogne (sp?) and pizzas, on the road that runs along the side of Peckham Rye Train station.

If you walk down Peckham High Street to the Railway bridge turn left and it is just along on the left.

Alternatively Roberto's on South Lambeth Rd,SE1

Also if it is still there, its has been a while since I was down that way 'The Green' on the right hand side of East Dulwich Road just past Goose Green is supposed to be good food, sorry I have only drank there not eaten.

The Curry Cabin is the best Indian restaurant on Lordship Lane and there is a nice Greek restaurant at the bottom of Grove Lane in Camberwell opposite the KFC

  3. Pizza Express has become something of a London Institution. Serving consistently excellent Italian pizzas quickly in pleasant unfussy surroundings, this is always a convenient and acceptable meal option. Starters, salads, pasta and deserts are also available along with the usual range of beverages. A reliable child-friendly chain, with consistently good service.

    Name: Pizza Express

    Address: 94 Dulwich Village

    Phone: 020 8693 9333

    Another god one is

    Neon

    71 Atlantic Road,  SW9 8PU

    Phone: 020 7738 6576

The food is Italian, with all the traditional virtues that implies: bright colours and fresh ingredients bursting with flavour. There are few surprises on the menu. Instead, Neon offers basic Italian food cooked to an extremely high standard and immaculately presented. Sautéed vine mussels were a simple dish cooked to perfection, while Bresaola with roasted vegetables offered a deliciously complex mixture of flavours. A very reasonably priced selection of pizza and pasta dishes included a sinfully rich Gorgonzola gnocchi. The test of a serious Italian restaurant is often in its ice-creams, and these had been lovingly prepared in an imaginative range of flavours.

Beer on tap, live DJs, good wines, great cocktails, and a 2am licence make it a great place for a pizza and drinks. While other trendy new Brixton bar/restaurants (Atlantic 66, Satay) appear to have chosen style over content, Neon hits the spot perfectly on both counts with delicious food and an atmosphere to match.
