  1. Join a yacht club and put your name on the "crew list".

Be warned sailing is very addictive and can be hours of boredom followed by sheer terror which is followed by "I want more!!" (then followed by a hangover the next day after the rum has done the rounds).

But remember the "Skipper" knows all. Even when you know he is wrong.

  2. One of the best ways is to "Crew" on a sailboat.  The larger the sailboat, the more crew she needs (usually).  Look in your phone book or whatever and find a Yacht Club or a Marina.  There are also websites that have a "Crew Wanted" section.

    Fair winds and full sails.

Welcome to the great world of sailing ! !

  3. Enlist in the U.S. Navy - there'll be all sorts of sailors there to learn from!

  4. Here a couple of places where you can find others to learn from.

A yacht club can provide a number of opportunities to learn. Clubs provide an opportunity to crew on another boat, find other sailors to crew on your boat, and other boats to go together on a club cruise.

Attend a sailing or navigation course.  This works both to learn and as a great place to meet other sailors.  These are offered by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, the American Sailing Association, and  US Sailing.

    Good sailing!
