Question:

Where can I find a heavy duty seat post?

I bought an adult heavy duty tricycle last month to get out and get some exercise. It was bought on-line. I'm a rather large guy about 546lbs. The tricycle itself is holding up great. The seat post that came with it didn't hold up. It bent back very badly. I am trying to find another seat post that will hold up to my weight. Please if you know of any place on-line that sells them to carry my weight or know of any ideas. Please let me know as soon as possible. I miss riding my trike.

SEAT POST SIZE: 25.4mm

I'm doing great on losing weight too. I go to the gym 2 days a week. I feel great!

  1. Kudos for taking the bull by the horns.

I'm surprised the seatpost gave up, usually that's not a weak point.   Of course 546 lbs is a bunch, and for people that race (like me), the seatpost is more of a placeholder than anything else.

Looking through my collection of bike stuff, my ControlTech seatpost appears to be the most bulletproof design, with rugged seat mount and an internal crossmember in the post itself.  I don't have any connections for them, although I did pick it up at a local bike shop (some time ago).  If they're still around, they shouldn't be hard to find.

  2. Call your local bike shops, maybe they can help.

  3. You might call and ask about this one:

There may be cheaper options as well.

I guess my big concern would be damaging the trike's seat tube.  Extreme pressure pushing back against the seat tube could damage it, rendering the frame useless.  I don't know how heavy duty your trike is though.

Good luck to you.  You picked a great way to lose weight and get in shape.
