If you like data entry/customer service work, www.liveops.com is  a legit company.  You will need to pay for the background check if hired.

I personally do AVON and WATKINS and make some pretty good money, but they do have to be worked at.  There are lots of others, all catering to different products and personal likes/dislikes.  

If you have young children, Discovery Toys, Usborne Books and Noah's Ark, might be good picks for you. Like home decorating - Home and Garden Party. Cooking? Tastefully Simple, my WATKINS, the list goes on. I have friends that do many of these, so if you needed more info, I can put you in touch with them.

The good thing about a home based biz like these is that the product is already there, the planning and biz ideas have all been worked out, and basically all you need to do is fit it into your life and work it.

Support is another thing - you need support from family and friends, no matter what you choose to do. Lack of support can make your attempts fail even when all else is going well.

Unless you have some unique skills there are no legitimate work from home businesses that just anyone can do.

I have friends who are work from home web designers and programmers.  I also have a friend who runs an online store.  

Some of those are your options whichever would fit you best.
