Question:

Where can I find a life coach?

I currently live in Japan (until April '09) but I would like to find a life coach. I am just at a point in my life where I would feel I need to talk about my decisions with some one who I feel can help me make the right choices. Is it possible for me to get a life coach here? It seems like I would need to meet the life coach in person. Has anyone ever done this through email or over the phone? Would that be as effective? Any input is very much appreciated, thank you! :)

  1. Hi!

If you're still looking for a life coach, I'm right here! I'm a Motivational Life Coach and would love the chance to talk to you about what it is you're looking for. As far as how to communicate goes, a lot of coaching is actually done over the phone. Please email me if you're interested in a free session and we'll take it from there.

  2. Actually I am a life coach in the States...and probably do 80% of my coaching is done by email!  Have you done a search in your area?  Maybe under holistic practitioners...See what you come up with.

You are welcome to check out my website, click on the coaching link - my email is at the top of that page if you have any questions.  There is no charge for initial contact...(your questions or brief outline of what you are looking for help with) - otherwise you can email me for books that can help too.

    Good luck!

  3. Actually, most coaching happens via phone. You can indeed have a good coaching experience by phone, and by email as well if you are generally comfortable with email communication.

First, narrow down your objectives a bit - this will help you decide on a coach. Then Google for "life coach" - you will get about a zillion hits, but persevere. Eliminate the ones with sites that are obvious fluffery, or that promise to make you a millionaire overnight. (That's half a zillion right there.) Then look for those who credibly and clearly state the strategies of their approach. (There goes another quarter zillion.)

By now, you should have a short list. Contact them to arrange a free consultation; if they don't offer it, the list gets even shorter.

After that, it's: Rapport; Competency; and Price. "Certification" means essentially nothing except the person had some spare cash and time on his or her hands.

Oh, and by the way - Take note that a life coach and a therapist do different jobs. If you have any concern that your uncertainty might be due to any sort of emotional issue, I suggest that first you talk your feelings over a bit with your general practitoner, a wise elder, or someone else with whom you would feel comfortable discussing feelings. It might be that a different type of professional might be more helpful. Think twice about working with a coach who appears to be more inclined to doing therapy, unless that person has clear credentials for so doing.

    Best wishes!
