  1. Well, you have to remember three things.

1.When you're looking for an apt you want to know that it's called Mietwohnungen ( rentals).

    2. German's often travel/move with their kitchens when they change apt. So always ask if there is a kitchen IN the apt (see below for definition). otherwise you'll have to purchase hotplates or something. But there very well might not be a sink other than the bathroom.

    3. 1 zimmer (room), 2- zimmer, does not translate into 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom. It literaly means 1 room. So the apt will be a type of efficency. So a 3-zimmer apartment means living room and two possible  bedrooms. Also remember Germans do not have built in closets. It sounds like a hassle but often times you can find an apt that has some furnishings.

Here's some help on the abrev.s you'll see

EBK- Einbau Kueche (built in kitchen)

    Stellplatz- parking space

2 ZKB- 2 rooms, kitchen, bath.

2 ZB 2 rooms and bath

    Balkon- balcony

    Aufzug- elevator

    WG aka wohngemeinschaft- Roommates

    Berlin has Craigslist! http://berlin.en.craigslist.org/apa/

    (mostly in english)

This is also a good site to check out

    http://www.degewo.de/suche2/suche.php?ty...

    and http://www.wohnung-jetzt.de/wohnungssuch...

and the paper in berlin uses this site http://www.immobilienscout24.de

This is directly berlin - http://www.immobilienscout24.de/marktpla...

and this website is issued by the city of berlin

  2. First of all, try Berlin's Craigslist, as well as an English speaking newspaper called "Ex Berliner".

If one of you can speak German, the possibilities are better, because you can look for a flat "auf zeit" in one of the major students' magazines, like Tip and Zitty.

There are also companies specialising in long-time hospitality (or short time rental, depending how you look at it).

    Try:

    http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&safe=...

    http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&safe=...

    http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&safe=...

  3. I don't know how much you can pay but you can check this:

    http://berlin.homecompany.de/index.php?s...

  4. Try this site: http://www.wg-gesucht.de

Run it through an online translator if you don't know German.

WG is a shared flat, the site will give you advertisements for empty rooms in shared flats. You want "nur Zwischenmiete", short-term rental for a specific timeframe.

It is the only economic way to spent 2 months in Berlin that I can think of. Be prepared to move if you cannot find a place for the exact timeframe of your stay. Be ready to bring sleeping bags and matresses in case the room(s) is (are) completly empty.
