I have tried to do a 4 inch by 4 inch square to see if I could come up with how many stitches were needed but could not figure it out.

  1. The pattern is based on the size you want it to be, you cast on 3 stitches, next row and all the following rows knit one, yarn over, knit to the end of the row. When the blanket is the right length from top to bottom, (a triangle) you start knit one, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 2 together, knit to the end. Do this until you have 3 stitches left on the needle, bind off, and Bob's your uncle.

    or

    BLANKET

Cast on 5 stitches. Knit 1 row.

    Next row Knit 3, yo, k 2.

    Next row Knit 3, yo, k 3.

Next row Knit 3, yo, knit to end.

Repeat last row until there are 126 stitches on needle.

Next Decrease Row Knit 2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k to end.

Repeat last row until there are 7 stitches on needle.

Next Decrease Row Knit 2, k2tog, k2tog, k to end.

    Bind off remaining 5 stitches.
