Where can I find a place in the Boston area that serves biscuits and gravy?

i'm from Memphis where it's pretty easy to find, but in Boston, i can't find such a place anywhere. None of the purported "southern" restaurants serve it as well.

I'm no good making it myself. It's either too much butter, too thick, not thick enough, plus I live by myself, so I end up wasting a roll of biscuits, a quart of milk, etc.

  1. This probably isn't exactly what you're looking for, but the Centre St. cafe in Jaimaca Plain has some very good biscuits w/ a mushroom gravy. I brought a friend from the south here, and he said they were an excellent rendition of the down home classic.

  2. Go to Old Country Buffet in Watertown or Walpole, MA.

  3. It's a shame it's so hard to find this in New England. I have to make my own, too.

  4. Here's what you do: Go to the grocery, and, in your freezer section, you'll find a blue bag of frozen UNCOOKED Pillsbury biscuits. These biscuits are frozen individually - just take them out and stick them in the oven, and they are delicious! And you make as much as you want and put the rest back in the freezer.

Secondly, go to the Bob Evans section, probably near the sausage or lunch meat section. They have sausage gravy in plastic packets to be microwaved.

Either that, or, if you can find a Bob Evans or a Cracker Barrell, they will have it.

REPLY: These are not mixes. The biscuits are ready to go, just put them in the oven. And the gravy is already made and in a plastic pouch which you can warm in the microwave. No cooking to it.

  5. There is a place that specializes in chicken pies and equivalents, Harrow's Home Style in Reading MA, right off Rte 128 on Rte 28.

Check with them if they sell biscuits and gravy as one of their side dishes. Web site is http://chickenpie.com/
