Where can I find a reliable web designer?

I have spent almost a thousand pounds on getting my website built with no tangible results yet. Everyone I go to ends up being really incompetent. I have tried Odesk and wasn't satisfied with the service I got. Please help

First off you should sign a web contract which states the scope of the job.  This is very important, because you don't pay them until the scope of the job is complete.  You must have an understanding with them.  Never get involved with a web designer until your review their contract.  It must protect both of you.  Plus make sure you have a third part hosting site, like ipower.web.   Third party sites have tremendous services and backup.  Plus the hosting service is only less than $95.00 per year.  Make sure they are using standard programs like Adobe Fireworks and Dreamweaver CS3.  That way if they don't complete you can have someone else finish.  

Never you a person who strictly uses code.  Go to craigslist and put your request in Computer gigs.  Looking for a web designer.  You want testimonials.  You want to talk with some of their previous customers.

if you want something done properly do it your self it is really easy to make websites now with the software out there even the free software

in genarel you should only pay for the final product when you are happy with the outcome eg you would not pay a bluider for a job before he/she has done the job ??
