  1. www.amtrak.com

  2. Right on the Amtrak website.

    http://www.amtrak.com

  3. It's hard to use the booking engine on www.amtrak.com.

(no c in amtrak).  You're probably better off calling 1-800-USA-RAIL for a complex trip like this.

    The trains you want are:

From Denver to Chicago, the California Zephyr.  West of Denver it's unbelievably scenic; but for you it'll just be a fast overnighter to Chicago.

    From Chicago to NYC,

the Lake Shore Limited, fastest but not terribly scenic, except the breathtaking Hudson River valley east of Albany, possibly the prettiest country in all of Amtrak, and I'm a Californian saying that.

    or

the Capitol Limited, which takes you through Harpers Ferry WV, and then a fast ride up the corridor on Acela.

    or

the Cardinal, by far the slowest through very scenic Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia.

  4. Go to Denver, and board the California Zephyr to Chicago.  From there, take the Lake Shore Limited to New York City.  I personally think the is the most scenic and fastest trip, (taking a little more than two days) you can take, especially sinc I have taken both of them numerous times.  I hope this has been helpful for you.  Good luck with your travels.

  5. If I were in Colorado Springs, I would shoot down to LaJunta and pick up the Southwest Chief to Chicago

  6. they have a we page.

    www.amtrak. com

    not user friendly

and they have marginal customer service at best.

  7. Also, please be advised when reviewing Amtrak's timetables, they rarely ever hold to the schedule posted.  This is because, outside of the Northeast, Amtrak operates almost entirely on the private freight railroads' tracks and is often delayed do to things such as track work or trains which receive priority over the passenger carrier.  It can sometimes be a bit frustrating but as long as you give yourself plenty of time and don't mind often times being an hour or more late the trip should be great.

  8. Spelling counts.  It's www.amtrak.com, not www.amtrack.com.  There's no "c" in the word.

  9. Go to amtrak.com.  You can type in your start and end destinations, and they'll give you the appropriate schedule.
