My Name is Alexander Rutherford. I am 66 years old and I finally plan on retiring. I have lived in America most my life but in large cities such as New York City and Chicago. In my lifetime I've acquired large sums of wealth and I plan now on buying a large house in a small town to live the rest of my years. I don't trust the other websites that say that their town is the best. In fact I want to hear from you guys. I have just about $48m. So do you all know of such friendly small towns? I'm looking for no more than a couple of thousand people in it. And all my children have married and are living in Europe at the moment. So I plan on living here by myself not with a family.Post your responses please.

Thank you,

Alexander R.

  1. I currently live in Los Angeles but originally from Fort Bragg California or Mendocino County.  Fort Bragg is a great place to live but if not to your liking I recommend you visit this small town.  It's located on the shore line of Northern California and Shielded by tall red woods and wild black berry bushes (I visit every year and pick berries to make enough preserves, syrup, and jams to last a year).  Since it is so small there isn't an airport or any way to get there besides car or train (Skunk Train).  The people are the GREATEST very kind, honest, and lovable.  The fire department is a volunteer only so most of my male family members are all volunteers but they do have a full time police force which is full of rookies but that's okay safer streets.  I can honestly say you can walk up to any residence and the door will be unlocked.  I don't know anyone there that actually locks the house doors when leaving the house.  I've taken friends with me who were born and raised in Los Angeles and they loved it...I have about a group of six friends that are planning on a second visit this summer.  Check it out...I think they have a website but it's not the real deal just need to see it to  believe

  2. In my many travels across the US I have been fortunate enough to have visited some of the greatest little towns America has to offer.

You can build a mansion anywhere, but it's truly hard to find a home.

But before we can go deeper, there are some questions that must be answered:

    1. Are you a mountain person or beach person?

    2. Do you love being surrounded by nature and trees, or the great wide open?

    3. What kind of climate do you prefer?

    4. Are you looking for a small town in the middle of nowhere, or a small town close to a major metro area? (Let's say within an hour or 2 drive)

That's a start to narrow down your selection a bit.

    Good Luck.
