Boater I believe you have a love for the skiffs.  However I can't help you much in direct response to your answer because I don't know where you live or what you really have in mind.

I will give a little Skiff History that may stimulate your interest.  Too my knowledge the term 'Skiff' was predominately from the Louisiana and Mississippi Delta region.  It originally described a flat bottom boat, rather than round like a canoe yet, wider than a Pirogue, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirogue

These were mostly used as auxiliary boats or operated very near shore.
