  1. Try looking in a china shop. There is no such thing as a tea cup yorkie. They are inbred, sickly, little runts. They may be cute, but they only bring sadness and death in the long run.

  2. ***Chalbri*** could not have been better said....very well presented!!!  Very well done!!

  3. Look on line at petfinder.com and you can just put in what kind of breed you are looking for and your zip code. If you buy from a pet store more than likely they are from puppy mills. Another good place you can look is the Houston ASPCA.

  4. look in newspaper under classifieds

  5. There is no such thing as "teacup" anything. Look it up. According to the AKC, a Yorkshire Terrier must not exceed 7 pounds. Keep in mind this is the ONE standard that exists for Yorkshire Terriers. If a Yorkshire Terrier must not exceed 7 pounds, wouldn't a 3 pound Yorkshire Terrier still be within breeds standard?Yes, it would. Therefore, you can not justify the "teacup" standard. A Yorkshire Terrier is a Yorkshire Terrier. It doesn't matter if they're 2 pounds or 12 pounds. Anything over 7 pounds is not within the ONE breed standard. Period.

"Teacup" is just a fancy term used by irresponsible backyard breeders and puppy millers to describe tiny, runts of the litter. They're poorly bred and often riddled with future health problems. You're looking at spending $1,000+ on the puppy alone, then another couple thousand on vet bills alone before the dog even turns one. They can cause more heartbreak than provide the unconditional love you expected.

Your friend is very lucky that her dog has not been sick yet. Knock on wood. You may not be so lucky if you insist on getting a so-called "teacup". I don't quite understand what is so good about having a tiny puppy with some cutsie name and an outrageous price tag slapped on it. What is wrong with your good ol' regular Yorkshire Terrier from a responsible breeder?

Anyone who claims to have "teacup" Yorkshire Terriers is an irresponsible backyard breeder or puppy miller. A responsible breeder would not use cutsie terms to describe the runt of the litter just to sell them for more money. I don't ever recommend getting "teacup" anything since it doesn't exist in any breed.

If you would like a well-bred Yorkshire Terrier that is 7 pounds or under, look for a responsible breeder. Check out the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America for a breeder referral/directory. http://www.ytca.org/ You could also try a Yorkshire Terrier rescue, but please do not give irresponsible breeders more of a reason to continue what they're doing. Breeding should be done to improve the breed, not try to produce the smallest puppy you possibly can.

Please don't say I'm not helping you, because I am. I'm trying to prevent you from supporting irresponsible backyard breeders or puppy millers. I'm trying to help educate you and help you realize that there is absolutely no such thing as "teacup" anything. I'm trying to help direct you to a responsible breeder with well-bred, healthy, happy puppies. I highly recommend you check out the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America for a breeder referral if you're interested in a good Yorkshire Terrier puppy.

  6. I have TONS of them...

  8. Sadly, your friend was ripped off. The poor little dog will not live very long, and is full of health problems- even if she "seems" healthy for now. Yorkies are 4-7 lbs, and there is no reason to get a "teacup" one that is smaller. Please look for a healthy Yorkie, and stay away from ANYONE who calls it a "teacup."

  10. Your friend was ripped off.

There is no such thing as a Teacup Yorkie. It is just some goofy name made by BYB's and Puppymillers to make a quick buck. Sadly, your friend fell victim to one and has a walking vet bill on her hands. But she'll learn her lesson...

  11. A teacup is something from which you sip tea.

People who breed sick, undersized dogs who are not even purebred to create "purse" puppies call their dogs "teacup."  Dogs like this more than not have major genetic and skeletal problems - for example, your dog of 2 years has both hips give out, they break their legs from a short fall, they develop a fatal disease before old age, things like that.

I would advise you to steer clear of breeders, pet stores, and newspaper ads and get yourself a lovely dog by adoption:

Don't let anyone tell you any different.  The original Yorkshire terrier, bred to kill rats in England, NOT sit pretty in someone's lap all day, is a dog that is tenacious and full of energy, and used to be close to 15 - 20 lbs, unlike the sick examples you'll sometimes see today barely over 5 lbs.

  12. Teacups are unhealthy, sickly, bred runts that die very quickly. Please do not support puppy mills and backyard breeders! Get a standard yorkie from petfinder.com. At least then you'll know your not going to get ripped off! Sigh. I'm soooo sick of these stupid "teacup dog" questions!

  13. aren't those from puppy mills? just get a regular yorkie. they ar esmall enough
