My video camera did not come with a cord to connect to my computer. I went to walmart and bought a cord made by Belkin that came with several different connectors and the one that seems to fit i don't think its the right fit.

My camera is a Sony DCR-HC38 MiniDV Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom

On Amazon.com people who bought the camera also bought Belkin F3N401-06-ICE IEEE 1394 4-Pin / 6-Pin 400 Mbps FireWire. Is this the cord I should get. When I contacted sony I was advised to buy this cord http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/viewItemDetail.do?operation=getItemDetail&itemID=534105&category=1&categoryName=Camera/Camcorder&searchOperation=modelSearch&searchText=DCRHC38.

I am also uncertain if its a cord to connect when you open the LCD screen or is it the one that connects in the rear that says IDV. I think thats the place for the Ilink.

  1. FIREWIRE to download video from tape to pc. U need alao software ROXIO MEDIA SUITE. sTART SOFTWARE THEN ON CAMERA AND CONTROL CAMERA FROM PC.

  2. try walmart.

    or gamestop

    entertainment shop

oh well either try ebay. or sony.com

  3. The Sony DCR-HC38 is just like any other miniDV tape based camcorder... it uses the DV (also called i.Link) port (this is a 4-pin) and connects to the firewire port (not USB) of your computer. If you don't have a firewire port, install one. The port installed on the computer will be most likely 6-pin... but can be 4-pin. It depends what you have or decided to install. You need firewire400 (Also known as i.Link or IEEE1394a) not firewire800.

  4. Go to Best Buy, they have everything and MORE

  5. Ebay there cheap.
