Here are two good ones:

For hotels/lodging, etc.  www.tripadvisor.com

For general travel (destination information) I'd use:

www.lonelyplanet.com

www.flyertalk.com

Hey Gordon,

I agree with the going to LonelyPlanet.com answer.  The site is easy to figure out.  You go to the "Destinations" link and it is further divided into continents, countries, cities and so on...  The good thing is the site has photos, videos, blogs shared by people and travelers (regulated of course by Lonely Planet).  Videos are even on the map, like a Google Earth feature so you don't even have to leave the page.

Lonely Planet is the original travel guide company, so they've been around and know their stuff.  It's also backed by a community (go to "Thorn Tree") who are creative, responsible, community and culturally oriented with their travels, so if you want something extraordinary and not just the regular tourist destinations, you can get answers there.
