  1. If you have trouble finding websites on the subject - and it IS a very specialized subject - try newspaper morgues.  Look at the old ads.

    I once had a job photographing old newspapers from the years 1913 through 1918. (from Pueblo, Colorado, in the United States, though, not from England)  There were ads for prime cuts of meat for 5 cents a pound, loaves of bread for a penny, new cars for a couple of hundred dollars, etc.

    I don't know if such resources are available on-line, or if you would have to physically go to the newspaper offices to find something like that, but it might make for an interesting and enjoyable outing if you did.
