Where can I find an acting agent?

I am a 14 year old girl that is aspiring to be an actress. Can info that you have on finding an agent and any other info like how much they will cost, what they will do, how they will help me, etc.

  1. your question tells me you are not ready for an agent. Agents do not make actors, they work for people who are already actors, you should work on that for at least four years.


  2. I assume you are learning the trade. Your acting teacher or coach will have contacts for you.

  3. Theatre Doc is correct, agents represent  actors, they don't train them, so you need to be working on that yourself already.  Since you had other specific questions as well, here are some answers:

    An agent shouldn't cost you anything. Except for the cost of photographs, there are no legitimate associated charges.  Agents get a commission on (percentage of) what you earn.

    Very basically, the agent's job is to submit you for castings or jobs they receive calls about that they think you are appropriate for.  

    They can also help you by giving referrals for acting classes, photographers and other professional networking opportunities that don't necessarily fall under the official duties of an agent.

    But BEWARE of "agency schools" who have a department that scams you out of money for mediocre classes (Barbizon, John Casablancas, John Robert Powers, etc). Offering you an overpriced "photo package" is another way these places separate you from your money.
