Where can I find an apartment in Indianapolis that DOES NOT run a background check?

I am getting kicked out of the house I am currently living in due to it being sold by the owner we were renting it from... and I have to find a place to go before my baby arrives (due August 24th) or we're homeless... however, my boyfriend has a felony and no place will accept us! I have no idea what resources to turn to... I don't know what to do... he's NOT a s*x offender or anything of that nature, and the whole cause of his felony was a huge mistake... does anyone know of any AFFORDABLE apartments in Indianapolis, Indiana that do not run background checks or that will accept an application from someone with a felony? HELP!

  1. You might have to rent a private home.  Each landlord will listen to your story.  The apartments have lists of rules.

  2. You just won't be able to get into a decent complex ....

The best thing is to look for an apartment by a private individule .... MOST don't do much checking and you won't have to mention your boyfriend's record ......

The main thing will be proof that you two can afford to pay the rent and utilities ....

  3. Good luck... a boyfriend with a felony and a baby, that's a double whammie.  Just wait til the boyfriend leaves you (he probably will after he realizes he doesn't want to be a dad and he can since you aren't hitched), then you should be able to get a place without ap roblem.

Start saving to buy a house, raising a kid in an apartment is no way to live.  Plus it pisses off all the neighbors when it cries at all hours.

  4. you're going to have problem finding places in nicer areas. It may have been a mistake but having that "felony" tag will forever haunt him. You may have to look at something in an area where you may have over looked b/c ot the neighborhood. Try looking at a house or trailer that is leasing it by owner. They are less likely to say no if they need the money. Be upfront about the felony if they ask but dont offer more than is asked, it could come across looking as if you're guilty and trying to blame someone else

  5. If you have a steady income could you possibly get a place based solely on your credit.  If not I'd just call around to a whole bunch of places and explain to each one your story and ask if they would take you. If they say no, be sure to ask if they know of anyone that might take someone in your situation - you can learn alot that way and get some great leads.  If this still fails try individuals (in fact try individuals at the same time) that maybe only have a few places, some of them may take you.

Best luck, and I think this is a situation where bulldog persistence is the key to getting a place as there are definitely people in worse situations than you that are able to rent places.
