Where can I find an inexpensive restaurant in New York that serves good steak?

Nick + Stef's Steakhouse near MSG - went there for office Christmas lunch, excellent food without breaking the bank.

Tad's Steakhouse (multiple locations around NYC) is certainly inexpensive, it's a chain of cafeteria-like steak houses.  Haven't been to one in years, so I don't know what the quality is like now.

City Search just recommended Pee Dee Steakhouse, 3rd Ave at 110th St.  They rated it with 4 stars out of five, and its price is listed with only 2 dollar signs out of 5, meaning it's a great value.

Here's the problem -  a good steak in a steak house will be pricey, but go for lunch rather than dinner. Lunch prices usually are less.

Try Bobby Vans on Park Avenue and East 46 Street, or Cafe Joul on First Ave near East 59 Street for great steak frites.

There is Gallaghers Steak House on the west side as well.

In 42nd street, its a restaurant that serves fantastic food with everything. Its a very famous place with T-bone steak and etc.

Les Halles serves good steaks;  the hanger steak is about $20 and the sirloin is under $30.  The food here is pretty good, the service is not.

The Post House has excellent steaks - they are very expensive.  If you are willing to have lunch instead of dinner, you can get a small filet mignon, a salad and a glass of wine for $25.  The food's good, service is excellent, but this isn't a "fun" place - it's on the stuffy side.

Porter House in the TimeWarner Building serves a three course lunch (hanger steak with fries), salad and dessert for $25.00.   Pretty place, nice view of Central Park if you sit near the window;  service isn't great.
