Question:

Where can I find cheap, non-magnetic 7.62x39 ammunition?

My local shooting range has a stick up their asses and won't let me shoot bullets that will attract a magnet. (afraid of a bullet hitting a rock and starting a fire). This includes steel core, steel or bi-metal jacketed bullets. .

So I'm looking to buy at least a 1000 round crate of 7.62x39 for my SKS. Ive been looking at most cheap ammo like wolf but they have a "Bi-metal" jacket.

So does anyone know of any CHEAP non-magnetic ammo out there? Thanks in advance for any help.

ALSO ---- They don't care about the casing. It can be steel and coated it doesn't matter.

  1. Your going to pay around $200 a case about anywhere now.

  2. Most of the cheap ammo is the Russian imports, but it is definitely magnetic.

The only real options for you are either new manufacture Federal or Fiocchi but they are both on the expensive side.  Besides that, the Yugo surplus 7.62x39 from the 70's is non-magnetic and can usually be had a lot cheaper than Federal or Fiocchi, but the Yugo will have corrosive priming.  It will make cleaning take a bit more time but is ok otherwise.

  3. www.ableammo.com and www.cheaperthandirt.com  shout have them, and http://www.jgsales.com/ will, just make sure they are non-corosive

  4. I buy at www.sportsmansguide.com

  5. Hmmmm ......  I'm fairly familiar with the 7.62X39MM... I come up with zip.... I remember a year ago sportsmansguide.com had loads of 7.62x39MM wooden bullet ammo... Strangest stuff I ever saw. The bullets were blue... Now I cant find them....

Look at this 7.62X39MM guide.... It might be of some help.....

  6. They're worried about ricochets.

They don't worry about the steel case, just the bullet.

Even the surplus 7.62 x 39 has lead/copper bullets, not steel cores.
