  1. I live in Chuo-ku, or central Tokyo, and a one room apartment around my place goes for about ï¿¥120,000/month.

I do think you can find plenty of places a bit more out of downtown, though.  I used to live in Edogawa-ku and the price you're looking at is definitely a possibility there.

  2. Please dont go for a cheap japanese apartment... (a room with toilet and kitchen). Or you will hear daily your neighbors vomiting and doing stupid noises at the middle ot the night.

  3. There is no such thing as Cheap apartment espeacilly in tokyo.

  4. If you don't mind being in the west of Tokyo. You can find cheaper apartments much easier but it will take about 1 hour or more to get into the middle of Tokyo.

Kichijoji and Tachikawa is convenient enough (see attached information - in Japanese). As you go west rent normally becomes cheaper or place becomes bigger with same price. You may need someone to help you to rent these places though. Some real estate agents don't like dealig with foreigners.

It is up to you. I actually enjoyed in Saitama. Also Chiba wouldn't be so bad, only if you don't mind catching trains.

    Good luck : )

  5. From what I have heard about the cost of real estate in Tokyo, I don't think that there are any apartments in this price range. However, I am in West Virgina and do not get the Tokyo newspapers. Why don't you try the Japan branch of Yahoo Answers? You probably will find someone in Tokyo who can give you a better answer than this is.

  6. Try the following website:

    http://www.tokyoapartments.com

It has lots of listings in every area and every budget.

You need to remember that many landlords in Japan require at least one month rent's worth as keymoney, which is non-refundable in addition to a full month's rent as damage deposit.

So, for the 1st month you could be looking at an outlay of 3 months rent.

  7. If you don't care the size of room to stay and surroundings of the place, try San-ya, a day laborer  town of deep dark Tokyo. You can communicate with international residents in English.

  8. Maybe you should check this question

Some person named 田中 said that there are 3 bedroom apartments for rent in Tokyo for only 950 yen per month. That's really cheap so maybe if you emailed her, she will tell you where to find those apartments.
