Where can I find cheap furniture? ?

My boyfriend and I are looking to move into an apartment soon, and we can't afford much. We need the basics, like a mattress, bed, table(s), a crib for the baby, and a couch. The summer's nearly over, so garage sales aren't really an option.....And we can't buy anything online because neither of us have credit cards. SO what are your suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  1. Check your local news paper in the For Sale section for furniture. You can find really good deals and when you meet them in person you can always bargain with them. Also check the Flea market and maybe let a near by church know, you would be amazed at how quickly they can fill a house full of furniture, they did it for my daughter and they delivered it too. Do you have a Good Will store? I find all kinds of goodies in there.  Take care.

  2. I don't know where you live but there still might be yard sales happening.  also check out consignment stores.  You can check out stores like Ikea, Sticks and Stuff, and Walmart(for the crib).  I have seen tables made out of large metal garbage cans.  Buy a new one and cut a piece of plywood for the top.  Then buy material for the tablecloth.  the great thing about it is you can store off season stuff in the can before you put the top on it.

  3. The Salvation Army Thrift is a good suggestion.  You can also find much furniture on Craigslist.  You could place an "items needed" add in the free section, and mention you're expecting; I bet a lot of people would be more than happy to part with some stuff to help you out.

  4. Try your local Salvation Army thrift store.

  5. Think about what you need and how much you want to spend. Ikea is a good place with inexpensive stylish furniture. Get pieces that have multiple functions that way you get the most out of what you purchase. Also look on craigslist or local newspapers. You may be able to work out a deal like make payments or exchange services.
