Where can I find copies of old newspapers. Not looking for special dates or antiques?

  1. If you don't need the original physical newspapers, most public libraries have microfiche archives of local papers.  Some libraries have gone to digital archiving on CD or DVD.   Most such archives go back to WWI or before.

    If you need to find something from a particular newspaper, assuming that newspaper is still in print, the newspaper company should have similar archives of their own issues going back to their first printing.  They will likely charge a fee for an archive search.   The results are often provided at an additional fee as digital files (sent to you electronically or on CD-ROM).   The cost of the service varies from paper to paper.  Some smaller local ones will do it for free, most of the larger papers will charge you for it.

    If the paper's gone out of business, your best bet is the local library in whatever city the paper was operating in.  Either that, or the local historical society -- though their archives will usually be less complete.
