Question:

Where can I find depression help?

I've been very depressed lately and though I've told my mom, she doesn't believe me and says it is just a 'teenage thing'.

I had thoughts of suicide a few days ago, but luckily didn't actually follow through. I've also started gaining a lot of weight extremely quickly, as I tend to eat when I'm depressed.

Where can I find help? My mom refuses to take me anywhere or help, I'm totally broke and cannot drive anywhere, and there's no school right now, so no guidance counselors.

Any free help?

Thank you.

  1. Alright, no school so no counselors, no money and transportation so no going anywhere.

The next best thing for you to do if you can't physically get to a trained professional is call the suicide hotline.

    1-800-784-2433

Even if you aren't suicidal RIGHT now you can tell them how you've been feeling and they'll be able to talk to you.  It's 100% confidential and you don't have to tell them any person information like your full name, address or phone number.  Just someone to talk to.  If they can't help you they will definitely point you in the right direction.

Another option.. if you're EVER thinking of suicide again... Call 911... They'll get you the help you need and a good counselor or psychologist to talk to.  And that will probably open up your mom's eyes and show her that this is SERIOUS.

Good luck.. and if you ever need to talk you can always e-mail me.   I've dealt with depression a good part of my life...  kauaiianknight@yahoo.com

  4. Here's how you can help yourself: look in the phonebook for mental health counselors. Find the closest one. Get on a bus or your bike and go there. Explain your situation and you will be helped. If you are truly wanting to get help, you will do this. If you're only seeking attention, you'll find excuses why you won't go.  Good luck.
