Where can I find donated land?

I want to start a small commune with an emphasis on green living and living off the land.Nothing to wierd or religious. Just need a place to grow my vegetables.. Preferably some where green, warm and far from the stresses of the world today. Im looking for a place thats in the cut and can be used long term. Vacant property, basically

If you are not a 501(c)3 organization, forget about it. Lots of people are willing to give land to conservation organizations for the tax writeoff. You are asking for a personal handout.

You used to be able to homestead land and get it that way. Those days are over.

All is not lost. You can pick up land very cheaply at tax sales. Sometimes people have great plans and buy a tract of land, only to have those plans fall through. The land is useless to them and they can't find someone to sell it to. They stop paying taxes on the land and eventually the municipality steps in and sells the land for the cost of the back taxes.
