Here are two areas to search.  Limiting coal production to reduce environmental impacts and the same with oil exploration/production.

An example about coal is how the impacts of open pit and strip mining leave huge scars on the surface features where it mined.  In the US and some other countries, every coal mine operator is required to reclaim the open pit, or strip mine after the coal has been mined.  In some cases new deposits are deemed economically infeasible for mining because the reclamation cost are too great.

In oil exploration/production limits are a defacto result of bans on new drilling in sensitive environments, the arctic and near-offshore drilling.
