My wife and I are interested in building a home and we want to build green but we don't really know where to start. We want to have our home powered by solar power and we want to look into energy efficient building materials and such. Anyone know where we go to start?

  1. Find a LEED certified architect in your area.

Solar power will only work if you are in a VERY sunny area. It's going to cost you a ton of money too. Solar is only economical in CA and HI.

  3. Take a look at Dome Homes.  Mother Earth News is where I first saw this.  Then I continued to research; finding them on line.  My favorite one is the one that they built in Florida.  Since I live in Florida, I was even more impressed how it survived the hurricanes.  We had three here in one year my home was only 7 years on its roof and the Hurricane took it off and cost me 11,000. for a new one.  The dome homes seem to survice more than just hurricanes also tonatoe's etc.  Check it out.  Many home plans can be found on the internet!
