I'm told my wife's grandmother was born there, but I can't find any reference to this island off of Cork.

  2. The Skeams consist of two islands, East and West in Roaringwater Bay, West Cork. You can zoom in on the islands on the map at the first site below.

West Skeams is uninhabited and, according to the second site, is owned by  Edward de Bono.

Third site: A book about the islands 'Heir Island: its History and People' has a chapter in it on East and West Skeam.

You can see a report on the excavation of the medieval church site on the island which took place in 1990 at the last site.

  3. Try "Skeme island" that sounds more like it. And then google it.
