Where can I find information about round timber/beam qualification?

Hi,

i am writing an essay about round timber and beams but i can find no information about the classification. All i know its Class A, Class I and Class II, but I have no idea what the requirements are. Have any of you an idea of where I could find it? I've been googling about it for 3 days now with no success. Thanks in advance.

Hopefully you live near a university since this will make your search easier by using their library.  But you are most likely going to find this info in state building codes which should be at a public library or available at the county courthouse.  The building codes will provide the criteria and classification for different structual members.  You could also call a lumber company too - the kind that actually cuts the trees down.
